U.S. Women's Soccer Team Advances to Finals After 2-1 Victory Over England, Williams, Nadal and Federer Triumphant in First Round Matches

The U.S. women's soccer (football) team is heading to the World Cup final after a 2-1 victory over England yesterday. The U.S.'s Christen Press scored the game's opening goal, but England's Ellen White tied it up within 20 minutes. The U.S. took the lead with Alex Morgan's sixth goal of the tournament, and a penalty shot from England was denied by U.S. goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher. Roger Federer, who hasn't lost in the first round since 2003, failed in the first set 6-3 to South African Lloyd Harris. Federer went on to win the next three sets, however, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. And Rafael Nadal vanquished Yuichi Sugita 6-3, 6-1, 6-3.
