Play by Play: Sports Venues of Florida (OTC: $BTHR) Retires Outstanding Convertible Notes with StarCity Capital and Fitbit (NYSE: $FIT) Announces Ready for Work Solution
Stocks discussed: (OTCMKTS:BTHR) (NYSE:FIT)
Sports Venues of Florida, Inc. (OTCMKTS:BTHR) has retired all convertible notes issued to StarCity Capital, LLC, paying the final installment on Friday, June 12, 2020. Sports Venues of Florida Chairman and CEO, John V. Whitman Jr., commented:
"First and foremost, I want to thank StarCity Capital, LLC., and it's ownership for working with us to reach a settlement agreement that called for the Company to make timely payments in lieu of them submitting toxic conversion notices. If StarCity had submitted conversions, given the fragile trading history of BTHR at the time the settlement was reached, it would have required issuance of billions of shares and massive dilution. Additionally, I am certain had this settlement not been reached our stock price would have been sub-penny and remained there. We are working very hard for our shareholders. We are very proud of what we have been able to accomplish during this difficult time in US and world financial markets."
Fitbit, Inc. (NYSE:FIT) has announced a new Ready for Work solution aimed at helping employers with health and safety as work resumes amid the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the press release, Ready for Work "gives employees access to key health metrics from their Fitbit device along with exposure, symptom and temperature logging, all within an easy-to-use Daily Check-In feature that provides employees with guidance on whether to go into the workplace." Amy McDonough, General Manager and Senior Vice President for Fitbit Health Solutions, explained:
"For more than 13 years, Fitbit has been working with employers to provide accessible and engaging solutions for employees to improve their health. As workplaces start to reopen, we have an opportunity to help employees better track their health and make informed decisions about whether or not to go to work. Early action is key to protecting the workforce and the workplace. Ready for Work enables employees to view trends in their Fitbit-tracked health metrics next to self-reported symptoms so they can assess their health and readiness for work from home."
NY Gov Cuomo Approves US Open in August, Baseball Commissioner Not Optimistic About 2020 Season
The Associated Press reports that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has given the green light for New York City to host the U.S. Open tennis tournament in late August as the state reopens following COVID-19 lockdown measures. At his daily briefing today he said:
"We're excited about the U.S. Open, (which) is going to be held in Queens, Aug. 31 through Sept. 13. It will be held without fans, but you can watch it on TV - and I'll take that. The tennis authorities are going to be taking extraordinary precautions, but that's going to take place."
News is not as promising in the baseball world, however, as the AP reports that Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred considers major league games to be in jeopardy this season. Manfred cites a "breakdown in talks between teams and the players' union on how to split up money in a season delayed by the coronavirus pandemic," as well as several players having tested positive for the virus as being contributing factors to uncertainties in moving forward. A quote from Manfred on ESPN reads:
"It's just a disaster for our game, absolutely no question about it. It shouldn't be happening, and it's important that we find a way to get past it and get the game back on the field for the benefit of our fans."
